The Odyssey Books 16-24

We will finish our journey through the ancient Greek poem, the Odyssey, in a class that includes looks at artworks illustrating each part of the story. This story has been told and retold over time, with changes in details and emphasis that say more about the mores of each era than about the actual myth. The class will culminate with a private art tour at the Getty Villa. Find out about ekphrasis — reacting to art by creating new art — and try your hand at poetry, prose, and even sketching to create our own responses to these stories. No prior experience is required; just bring your curiosity and enthusiasm!
