Explore the art, architecture, and design of the early 20th-century German art school and its influence on modern household and industrial design. Find out about the Bauhaus’ attempts to elevate the status of crafts, textiles, furniture, and household items to the level of fine art, and the contributions of such design personalities as Walter Gropius, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Lilly Reich, Marcel Breuer, Anni Albers, and Wassily Kandinsky will be studied. The lecture includes discussion of the political, social, and technological challenges of the era that influenced Bauhaus design, and the practical innovations the school developed that contribute to a legacy of classic design and functionality that endure today.
