Learn stone carving techniques using traditional hand tools: sculpture hammer, chisel, rasp, and file. Finish your work by sanding, polishing, and mounting on a wood base. Create three-dimensional abstract or representational sculptures. Bring sketches of ideas to the first meeting. Beginning students will purchase alabaster or soapstone at the first meeting. Stones will cost approximately $20-$40, plus $20 for finishing supplies. Basic tools provided for use in class. Advanced students may continue on existing projects. Materials fee $60 at class.
